Doug Bjornson, CA - Secretary Treasurer
Mr. Bjornson is a Chartered Accountant who has been with Mainroad since 1990. He moved from Controller of Mainroad Contracting to Secretary/Treasurer of the Mainroad Group of companies in 1994. Doug is a member of the Mainroad Board of Directors and is responsible for corporate governance, financial, insurance, and bonding requirements. Doug is also Secretary Treasurer for the BC Roadbuilders and Heavy Construction Association. He is past Treasurer of the BC Safety Network and was a director of the Employee Share Ownership Association.
David Ching, P.Eng, MICE – Vice President, Business Development
Mr. Ching is a licensed Professional Engineer in BC, a Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Civil Engineers of UK and holds a Masters of Science in Civil Engineering from University of Hawaii. David has 30 years of experience in management of heavy construction projects as well as road and bridge maintenance contracts. He has been with Mainroad since 1989 and actively involved with maintenance contracts with the Province of BC, Translink, local municipalities and airports. Key areas of responsibility include business development, contract bidding, operation cost containment and contract administration. As part of his business development role, David sponsored business initiatives such as anti-icing, ISO 9001 certification, winter salt distributorship, ITS equipment servicing, pavement marking and public-private partnership projects. David is a member of the Mainroad Board of Directors.
Noel Mankey, AScT – Vice President, Operations
Mr. Mankey is a Civil and Structural Applied Science Technologist, with over 20 years experience in the administration of highway maintenance programs in the busiest areas of the province of BC. Since joining Mainroad in 1997, Noel has filled the role of Project Manager, General Manager – East Kootenays, General Manager – Lower Mainland / Howe Sound, before becoming the Vice President – Operations in April 2006. Prior to 1997, Noel worked with the Ministry of Transportation for 13 years, the bulk of which time was spent as Area Manager, Lower Mainland. Noel is currently the Chairman for the Maintenance Sector of the BC Roadbuilders and Heavy Construction Association.
Richard Sakaki, CHRP – Vice President, Human Resources
Mr. Sakaki is responsible for the Company’s human resources and labour relations functions. Richard’s diverse HR career has spanned the retail, construction, engineering and funeral industries. Most recently, Richard was the Director, Human Resources for Service Corporation International (SCI), North America’s largest single provider of funeral, cremation and cemetery services. During his 11 year tenure at SCI, Richard was responsible for all HR related issues for SCI’s Canadian operations which consisted of approximately 2,800 employees across Canada. Richard holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Industrial Relations / Human Resources Management from the University of British Columbia. He is a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) and member of the BC Human Resources Management Association.
